SPM stands for Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators. These are sometimes confused with fish oil, but actually, fish oil converts in the body to SPMs which is part of why fish oil helps inflammation. However,  for a variety of reason, this conversion can be poor. The isolation and use of SPMs therefore gives a more effective and direct route to resolving inflammation.

SPMs aid the body in resolving inflammation rather than blocking, suppressing or inhibiting inflammatory pathways, all of which are a temporary fix. Resolving inflammation is where healing occurs.
